Young believer: Good morning sir, I have a word from the Lord for you. As I was praying around 2 am, I saw a vast expanse of green vegetation with diverse kinds of crops and I heard a voice say “possess your possession”
Your time has come.
Old believer: That’s nice, so what does that mean?
Young believer: It means God said I should tell you that your prosperity has come…Glory!!!!!!!!
Old believer: (unmoved and somewhat downcast).
Young believer: Sir, this should excite you. Why the indifference?
Old believer: Just a quick question, how did you know it was God that spoke to you for me?
Young believer: Haba, this is how God speaks to me over the years, I know his voice.
Old believer: Again how are you 100% sure it was God?
Young believer: Hmm, well, you know, but does God not speak to people?
Old believer: Answering a question with a question is not so wise. Let’s try again, How does God lead his people?
Young believer: Dreams, vision, prophesy and the word. Wait also with the Holy Spirit.
Old believer: We are getting somewhere. So which method is 100% full proof?
Young believer: You have come again o. I believe all.
Old believer: Just to be clear, the ONLY certain method God speaks to his children today is the BIBLE (originated, illuminated and impressed in the heart of the saint by the Holy Spirit). So if you want to know what to do par time, here is the summary:
1. Read your Bible (obeying it, you will never miss anything).
2. Trust in God’s Providence. – as you do (1), God will lead you step by step and long-term.
3. Seek godly counsel. It is self-evident that godly men that have done (1&2), would be in a great position to advise on the path they had walked with the Lord.
Caution
Steps 2 and 3 are subject always to and in all things to Step 1.
Now, where does this your word from the Lord for me fall?
Young believer: Ehmm, sir, you see, hmmmmm
Old believer: After a big bowl of eba, you started seeing things. Now you can’t say biblically that it is from God. This is how many have destroyed other peoples faith with false hope and so called word from God. All God wants us to know is already in his word. The Holy Soirit is here to illuminate it in our hearts and guide us along that path. It is not guesswork or a vague assertion. It is so detailed that no man can master all of God precepts in his life on this side of eternity. It is a gradual, life-long journey that the Holy Spirit through the word carries us on.
Young believer: Are you saying God cannot have a word for us and speak to someone else to deliver the message?
Old believer: Weldone heavenly-postman delivering parcels from on high. My friend run along and……
Young believer: I know, ….go and read my BIBLE…. Nawa o, no joy with this man sef. See how he just finished my new frontier in the spirit…..
Old believer: Are you still there???
Young believer: No Sir, I am in 1 Pet 2:1….
Old believer: Very good Mr spiritual courier service man.
Reflections
- How seriously do you take the bible?
- At the very heart of our desire for new things is a mindset that feels the scriptures is insufficient, well 2 Tim 3:16 states categorically that the bible is all we need!
- The saints of old paid dearly for us to have this book freely in our language.
- Have you read your bible? are you obeying its instructions? are you in the process of living by its command?
- Even if you don’t understand the deep things, what of the basic ones of salvation, faith, faithfulness, sin, hell, heaven…. get grounded in the basics and advance to the more profound doctrines.
When we say GOD TOLD me so and so, we need to be very careful as the implication is that that thing is backed by Gods sovereign power. If it does not come to pass, it means God is unreliable and should not be trusted. And by coming to pass, we means it MUST come to pass EXACTLY as God said it would 100% of the time. Not even one mistake is accepted as that is all that is needed for God to be unreliable.
However, we know GOD is not UNRELIABLE and his words without fail all come to pass. Read the creation story in genesis and see how things played out AFTER GOD SPOKE them!!!
THE ONLY SURE WAY TO HEAR FROM GOD today (100% certainty) is via his WORD!!!!! Listen to him today.
